This isn't just a hobby,

I have been dedicated to aviculture since I was a small child, but my adventure really began in 2007. As a private breeder of Gouldian Finches, I quickly became involved in the National Finch & Softbill Society and gained recognition for my knowledge of Gouldian Finch genetics.
Beginning in 2014, I expanded my aviary to include Pacific Parrotlets and Red-Fronted Kakarikis. I have dabbled in other species along the way, and currently own Kakarikis, Sierra Parakeets, Rainbow Lorikeets, Black Lories, Goffins Cockatoos, Umbrella Cockatoos, Roseifrons Conures and Painted Conures along with a variety of Estrildid finches. |
SPECIES PROFILEKakarikisAbout the size of a well-fed Green-Cheek Conure, Kakarikis are a medium-sized parakeet native to New Zealand. These birds are inquisitive, silly, and perfect for apartment living as they are notably quiet for their size. Kakarikis offer companionship in a smaller package and are independent and not prone to vices like screaming or plucking. These are birds that thrive on being involved in daily life without the need for physical affection, in fact, they really do not like to be touched at all! They are a great option for someone who wants a bird but who does not have the time for a velcro bird that thrives on affection. Kakarikis come in a variety of colors outside of their normal green coloration, including, but not limited to: yellow, turquoise, pied and cream.
